€700 raised at KMK Metals Recycling for Offaly Goes Green and ACT

Coffee and cupcakes to celebrate Offaly Goes Green were just what everyone needed at KMK Metals Recycling, on Wednesday, 25th September as the weather turned noticeably colder. A staff raffle to win an extra day of annual leave raised €450 which was topped up to €700 for Accessible Counselling Tullamore (ACT), the charity behind the mental health campaign that runs across the county during the month of September.

The initiative is being held in support of the National Green Ribbon Campaign which runs every year in a bid to end mental health stigma. Offaly Goes Green builds on the legacy of the very successful Tullamore Goes Green initiative, which was established in 2018 by the late James O’Connor, founder of ACT and a passionate advocate for mental health.

Joanne Burke, HR and Communications Executive at KMK Metals Recycling, said, “Although awareness is growing, there unfortunately remains a stigma around mental health. Those experiencing mental health difficulties should feel comfortable seeking help without worrying about it being viewed in a negative way. Our coffee morning was a lovely opportunity to take time out and chat to colleagues. Staff here at KMK Metals Recycling are encouraged to use our Employee Assistance Programme to obtain free counselling or to contact Accessible Counselling if they need to talk to someone. Through campaigns like Offaly Goes Green we can normalise mental health issues and inspire people to get help.”

Accessible Counselling Tullamore is a community counselling centre based on Main Street, Tullamore Co. Offaly. The purpose of ACT is to pioneer a sustainable model of community-based counselling and psychotherapy services that are accessible to all.
