KMK Metals Recycling is running a competition across its social media platforms to give away two refurbished iPads as part of the company’s International E-Waste Day celebrations.
The theme of this year’s International E-Waste Day which takes place on the 14th of October is ‘Join the E-Waste Hunt - Retrieve, Recycle, and Revive!’ It is focusing on the unused electronics that people store in their homes without realising these items contain valuable materials that could gain a new life. According to the latest UN General E-Waste Monitor, in 2022, 62 billion kg of e-waste was generated globally, and this is expected to rise to 82 billion kg by 2030.
Over 80% of Ireland's e-waste is recycled at KMK Metals Recycling and the company is fully supportive of reuse, refurbishment and a circular economy. Two refurbished silver 6th Gen 32GB Apple iPads have been purchased from IT refurbishment company, GreenIT as prizes for a competition which will run across Facebook and Instagram.
Max Kyck, General Manager of KMK Metals Recycling, said: “International E-Waste Day is a brilliant initiative for highlighting the growing problem of e-waste. In a fast-paced high-technology world, a throwaway culture has emerged, where people go out and replace electronic products without considering if they can be repaired or reused. Sometimes, the items are not even broken but a newer, shinier model has come out. What is even worse is that much of the products no longer being used are just hiding in corners, drawers, attics or sheds. The ideal scenario is that a product is repaired or refurbished but if it has gone beyond that, at the very least it should come to us in KMK Metals Recycling where the valuable resources contained within can be recovered. If we cannot get access to the e-waste then the resources are lost and the circle is broken. We are encouraging everyone to join the hunt in your own homes and unearth the treasures that lay hidden.”
To enter the competition to win one of two iPads, go to any of KMK Metals Recycling’s social media pages and follow the simple instructions. The competition closes at 10pm on Monday 14th of October 2024 and the winners will be contacted the following day. Entrants must be aged 18 or over. The prizes are as described, and no cash alternatives will be offered.
